Remote Car Starter Keyless Entry Notes Sheet for Model #s 28624T & 28628
Thank you for purchasing DesignTech unit that offers keyless entry features. Proper installation will result in
years of trouble free keyless operation including locking and unlocking your vehicle’s door locks and trunk control.
Please read these instructions completely prior to beginning connection to the vehicle’s locks and trunk.
GENERAL GUIDELINES AND CAUTIONS:
• Obtain a vehicle wiring sheet for your specific vehicle indicating the location, colors and types of locks and trunk
system that you will be working with. Please note that it may be necessary for you to purchase external relays
and/or diodes and resistors that are not included with your product. Please visit the DesignTech website at
www.designtech-intl.com
• When testing for lock/ unlock/ trunk wires, closely follow the instructions and when checking electrical
connections, use a test meter (multi-meter, voltage meter, etc.), DO NOT use a test light. It is easy to
accidentally damage the circuitry in modern vehicles testing for wires with a test light.
• The better you make your connections, the more reliable your system will be. We recommend soldering all
connections.
• All chassis ground wires must go to clean, bare metal surfaces. Always test the spot you have chosen for ground
connections to make sure it is a good ground. Pieces of metal supporting or attached to the underside of the
dashboard are not good locations. The best spot is usually in the kick-panel.
• Some door lock circuits will require that up to three wires on the DesignTech module be attached to +12 volts.
When doing this, connect all these wires together and then put the fuse on the main wire so that all wires are
protected with the fuse.
NEGATIVE TRIGGERED DOOR LOCK SYSTEMS
This circuit style is common to
most Japanese cars and some
European cars as well. In this
circuit the door lock/ Unlock
switch activates a relay which in
turn activates the lock/ unlock
motors in the car doors. The
DesignTech module will be
connected so that it provides a
negative pulse to the
appropriate wires to lock or
unlock the doors.
Testing for this type system is
very simple. First, check the
Keyless Entry wiring guide and
determine the color and location
of the lock wires in the vehicle
you are working on. Set your
test meter on continuity (or
ohms) and clip or attach one of
the probes to the cars chassis.
